The inauguration of a Jewish cemetery in East London in 1657 was a clear sign that the Sephardim were in Britain to stay. But, after the opening of Hoop Lane cemetery in Golder’s Green, the Novo in Mile End closed for business in 1906 – and was built over in the 1970s.
